2 More Arrested For Wild Car Meetups In Philly: Police

Two more arrests have been made relating to illegal car meetups in Philadelphia, according to police.

Joseph Cavanaugh, 21, of Levittown, and James Hare, 20, of Philadelphia, were arrested on Friday, Oct. 25, the Philadelphia Police Department said. 

Both men were charged for their actions at a series of illegal car meetups that took place in various parts of the city beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 and ending at 4:33 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, according to police.

Cavanaugh was charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault.
  • Causing or Risking Catastrophe.
  • Criminal Mischief.
  • Riot.
  • REAP.
  • Criminal Conspiracy.
  • Simple Assault.
  • Fleeing Police Officer.
  • Disorderly Conduct - Hazard.
  • Reckless Driving.

Hare was charged with:

  • Causing or Risking Catastrophe.
  • Riot.
  • REAP.
  • Criminal Conspiracy.
  • PIC.
  • Fleeing Police Officer.
  • Criminal Mischief.
  • Disorderly Conduct - Hazard.
  • Reckless Driving.

Philadelphia police officers responded to multiple locations throughout the city for illegal car meetups with crowds ranging in size from 50 to more than 200 vehicles, police said. Incidents that are still being investigated include drifting, setting off fireworks, starting trash fires, and vandalizing police vehicles.

In some instances, officers on foot had to dive out of the way of vehicles to avoid being struck, according to previous Daily Voice reporting.
